چکیده

A multiple-order-parameter mean eld theory of ordering on a binary hexagonal-close-packed (HCP) crystal structure is developed, and adapted to provide a continuum formulation that incorporates the underlying symmetries of the HCP crystal in both the bulk and gradient energy terms of the free energy. The work is an extension of the previous treatment by Braun et al. Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc. Lond. A 355 (1997), p. 1787] of order-disorder transitions on a face-centered-cubic crystal (FCC) lattice. The theory is used to compute the orientation dependence of the structure and energy of interphase and antiphase boundaries in ordering to the Cd 3 Mg and CdMg structures, which are the HCP analogs of Cu 3 Au and CuAu structures in FCC. As in the corresponding FCC case, the multiple order parameters do not form a vector. Anisotropy is a natural consequence of the underlying crystal symmetries and the multiple-order-parameter continuum formation presented here. The isotropy transverse to the six-fold axis expected for a scalar order parameter is not found.

The axial ratio of hcp Fe and Fe – Ni – Si alloys to the conditions of Earth ’ s inner core 1 " 2 "

10" The Earth’s iron-rich inner core is seismically anisotropic, which may be due to the 11" preferred orientation of Fe-rich hexagonal close packed (hcp) alloy crystals. Elastic anisotropy in 12" a hexagonal crystal is related to its c/a axial ratio; therefore, it is important to know how this 13" ratio depends on volume (or pressure), temperature, and composition. Experimental data on the 14"...

Limitation of current hardening models in predicting anisotropy by twinning in hcp metals: Application to a rod-textured AM30 magnesium alloy

When a strongly textured hexagonal close packed (HCP) metal is loaded under an orientation causing profuse twinning or detwinning, the stress-strain curve is sigmoidal in shape and inflects at some threshold. Authors have largely attributed the dramatic stress increase in the lower-bound vicinity of the inflection point to a combined effect of a Hall-Petch mechanism correlated to grain refineme...

EFFECT OF FINISH ROLLING TEMPERATURE ON MICROSTRUCTURE,TEXTURE AND PLANAR ANISOTROPY IN ALUMINUM ALLOY AA3004 SHEETS

AA3004 alloy is widely used in can making. The major concern in the production of canbodies is earing, which develop by high planar anisotropy of rolled sheet. Balance ofrecrystallisation and rolling textures together with a uniform and fine grain microstructure canminimize the earing. The effects of finish rolling temperature (FRT) on planar anisotropy, microstructure, texture development and m...

High Anisotropy CoPtCrB Magnetic Recording Media

We describe the synthesis, magnetism and structure of CoPtCrB alloys with Pt concentrations from 10 43 %. The Cr concentration in the alloys was 15-17 % and the B concentration was 9-11 %. The magnetic anisotropy and coercivity increase with increasing Pt up to M 30%, plateau at M 35,000 Oe and w 6000 Oe, respectively, and then decrease. Transmission electron microscopy results show the media f...

Magneto-optical spectra of long range chemically ordered FePd(001) alloy films

The occurrence of chemical ordering can have a dramatic influence on structural, electronic, and magnetic properties in many materials systems. Examples of recent interest are binary metallic alloy systems such as CoPt, FePt, and FeAu, where strong interdependencies between magnetic and magneto-optical properties and the degree of long range chemical ordering have been observed. Near the equiat...
